The guide covers a good bit of the language and culture information for the area we traveled. It is small enough that my wife could keep it handy in her shoulder bag. However, one trades size and portability for print size more friendly to the eyes. So, for the money it was a worthwhile purchase.
This is what happens when you attempt to put too many things into one book. When you cannot even find the word for chicken or fish, something is wrong. It might be better than nothing but after the first few attempts, it never came out of the suitcase again. If you want help with a language, get a separate book for each.

On the map of Russia Samara is not at the Samara Bend. Otherwise no complaints. The introductions to each section have plenty of fun information. Obviously they skipped over some of Eastern Europe to include more of Southern Europe.
Small size makes it easy to travel with and the phrases include the most commonly needed travel phrases.Great little book!

The book is perfect, except for some mistakes in the Romanian section. The Romanian section has you pronouncing the "i" at the end of Miercuri on page 296 is given as myer-koo-ri when in fact, it should just be myer-koo-r and the same error is repeated with vineri (pronounced as vee-ne-ri) when it should be vee-ner. The i at the end is usually not pronounced in Romanian. The same mistake is also repeated with marÈ›i (pronounced as muhr-tsi) when in fact, it is pronounced marts without the I at the end being pronounced. I just happened to find some inconsistencies with the book when in fact on other pages, the I at the end is NOTpronounced, aici on pg. 300 is pronounced as a-eech.There is also another problem and it's with the Croatian section. The months in Serbian are not listed on the same page as the months in Croatian on pg. 96. Only the Croatian months (listopad, rujan, etc) are listed and not Januar-Decembar as they would be inSerbian. If they did this book right, which it appears they have not, then the Serbian months would be listed with a S (signifying "Serbian") besides them. That is the one detail missing from this book. For example, listopad c/s novembar (c for Croatian and s for Serbian). I think that Lonely Planet could have done a better job with the Croatian section by listing the months in Serbian also.There are some spelling mistakes in the Bulgarian section. ДвадеÑет is spelled ДвайÑет and thirty (ТридеÑет) is spelled ТрийÑет. Fifteen is supposed to be ПетнадеÑет, but is spelled ПетнайÑет, which is incorrect. ШеÑтнадеÑет is the Bulgarian word for sixteen, but it is spelled ШеÑнайÑет, in the book, which is also incorrect.
