IMHO Great read for the above average enthusiast whom has a lil bit more than a basic knowledge of automotive electronics/control systems/ and how an engine operates. In conjunction with the help of this, my friend and i have successfully modified a terrible base fuel map on a h22 utilizing hondata s300v3. By logically following the info in this book, within a week of tuning, approx about only 20 hrs total, we hit 180hp and 147ft/lbs. Note that no timing adjustments as of yet. We are running on the safe side of fuel which still needs optimizing. I can see that the info in here can be useful toward any standalone.it is NOT megasquirt specific! I would reccommend this to anyone getting started or interested in tuning their vehicles.
A good introduction to EFI systems and aftermarket retrofits. You probably won't learn anything you can't already learn by reading various Megasquirt pages, but it's nice to have it all packaged in one place. The one thing that I wish was more fleshed out was the tuning examples, they are mostly focused on hardware now but it would have been interesting to go through the final tunes and point out similarities and differences between the different motors. It's also 100% focused on automotive systems, which probably is where 99.9% of their customers (and the authors' experience) are, but I would have appreciated an overview of the challenges that are specific to motorcycle, marine, and aviation applications.
This is an excellent primer on electronic fuel injection systems, their construction and operation. It covers a lot of the various aftermarket options' high and low points without being overly critical or gushing about any of them. If you are looking for a lot of specific information on tuning, this is not your book nor is it if you're expecting a lot of MegaSquirt information since Mr. Cramer is part of DIYAutoTune. This is more of an overall view, almost a textbook, and it's an excellent one. It will not teach you to tune your specific car, other than to explain the best way: pay for the dyno time and work it 'til it rocks. If you really want specific information about your system and/or combination in particular, join an online forum and start reading there.
Well, if you are like me you have been exposed to standalone or at least have been involved in some sort of automotive tuning. If you want to get the most out of your engine, you probably want standalone. I was tired of being limited by what a chip tuner told me I could use. Thats when I jumped in and purchased standalone.This book is an easy read with lots of good info. I personally have already been exposed to and was familiar with most of the stuff going on in the book. But some things I was unsure of are written about in depth, and easy to understand. Whether you are thinking about, or currently are standalone and maybe need to brush up on some stuff, this is the book for you.
I've read a few of these types of books since I started looking into modifying Jetronic and then motronic. The info in most of those books were very basic and didn't really enhance my understanding though most of them promised that type of knowledge.Anybody familiar with MegaSquirt knows what a resource this little gem is. And with this book explaining lots of stuff in detail it gives a better understanding not only of MS but also of all EFI units.I more than likely wouldn't have bought the book from another Writer, but having bought my Megasquirt II from DIYAutotune.com several years ago as a kit and having emailed questons about this and that I was confident this would be better than average info.I was not disappointed.Thanks. Wish someone would come out with a Bosch motronic book with as much clarity as yours.
This books explains in plain english everything you need to know about EFI. It doesn't use any complicated jargon, everything is simple to understand. It explains the history of EFI, its evolution, sensors involved and tuning. The book covers everything you need to know to understand the concept of EFI and tuning.If you want to get better understanding of EFI systems and tuning concepts in general then this book is for you and I highly recommend it.If you want really in depth information (formulas, designing systems, etc) then this book is not for you. This book is more about building a solid foundation of a skyscraper rather than the skyscraper itself.
Great book for beginners for sure.Explains a lot about EFI,how it works,how different sensors work and then how to tune your car .This will be my reference for a long time. I wish they would write a second part focusing on Megasquirt with lots of examples. :) Well worth buying.
This book would have been absolutely invaluable when I was piecing together my Megasquirt setup for my BBC 454. Even though I have it all functioning now, it has still been useful in understanding more of the principles that are going on under the hood so that I can better understand what effects my changes are having. Definitely a rich source of information for the EFI hobbyist. A MUST-HAVE if you are going to build a Megasquirt from the ground-up for an engine.
